ATV WORLD's Leon Beda at the British
Round 5 of the MMX British was hosted by the experienced Nora club, based in Oxfordshire.
The track was Culham and this is a track that's seen as fast but relentless.
Leon had started the weekend by feeling well below par as he had a large Wisdom tooth removed late Friday afternoon and with a rapidly swelling face that stayed with him for the next two days he looked more like Elephant man and than a British contender.
As the free practice board changed to qualifying he had a major technical hitch that found him stranded at the furthest point and a locked up front wheel, he ended up with only 2 minutes left to get a decent time in but the track had got rougher by the end of the session, so it was a 13th pick of the start gate.
Race one got under way and with a freshly watered track he found himself mid pack and getting filled in by other riders roost, in lap one his troubles hadn't ended as the pull part on his roll off goggles jammed, so with poor visibility he pushed himself forward to a 9th position by the end of the 25 minute race.
Race two, he found himself in yet another mid pack start however the track was in much better condition so he soon settled down in passing as many riders as he could but the track of Culham is although fast but very one lined the task was not easy, however, he had some good battles with KIK Honda team rider Willie Waggot but once Leon made the move stick he quickly pulled a big gap, team mate Ricky Tordoff took advantage of a mistake by Leon by going to wide on one of the corners and suddenly finding himself in some loose bermed dirt Ricky had taken the 6th placed from Leon but he then kept his head down and secured 7th position in moto 2.
So it was very much damaged limitation for Leon as he did pick up some points again and is keeping consistent which still see's him in fourth overall in the Championship points board.
A very unhappy Leon commented on that there had been no tooth fairy visiting him that weekend. However he was happy to still finish within the top ten and finish 7th overall on the day and looks forward to the next round at Deans Moor on the 12th July. At that he also would like to thank all sponsors for their outstanding products.
