Round Two – Pro Class
Qualifying in fourth, Paul Holmes got off to a good start and had one of his best ever rides. Looking smooth on the corners and riding at a blistering pace, he took second place, finishing just behind first placed Paul Winrow and also taking fastest lap of the race. John Mitchell made third place.
During the day, the heavens opened and the rain poured down. The Pro Class riders cast a vote as to whether they should continue as a number of riders felt the track was unsafe. Meanwhile, the controversial decision to continue had already been reached by the race organisers who proceeded with sending out all the other classes with no incident. It was then the turn of the Pro Class riders to take to the starting line. Unfortunately a number of riders had decided not to ride in race four.
Paul Holmes did start and was again riding on the pace in third place. Everything was going great until an unexpected fault appeared, meaning he had to make do with fourth. Paul took second overall in round two with John taking first, an outstanding achievement for both riders and the team.
John Mitchell was also riding well. The set-up on his ATV World Yamaha Laegers was superb – and it showed as he went from sixth on the first corner to finishing in first place. It was a fine display of gritty championship-winning attitude, taking his points tally up to the top spot. John is now in first place overall after the first two rounds. He said afterwards “I was really happy with my bike, the suspension was particularly good and the new Holeshot GNCC tyres handle really well in sandy and muddy conditions”.
