Team ATV World Yamaha Dominate at Scottish Championship Opener
29th March 2009
Scottish Quad Racing Championship 2009
Round One Cardenden
ATV World Yamaha riders John Mitchell, Leon Beda and Dean Thompson battled in a thrilling opening round of the Scottish Quad Championship on Sunday 29th March at the Fife Community Offroad Motorcycle Club track.
With dry weather and a fast track, the dust flew as the racing got underway. It was John Mitchell who got the better of the other riders, finishing first place in race one. Just behind him was his new team mate for 2009 and recently signed to ATV World Yamaha, Leon Beda. Leon has won the QRS Championship an inpressive three times and is currently riding in fine form for the 2009 season. Finishing the first race in fifth place was ATV World’s young star, Dean Thompson.
Race two ended in much the same way with John finishing first, Leon second and Dean in third place. In race three John suffered a technical problem and was forced to retire. Leon snapped at his chance and took first place finishing first overall on the day. Dean took third place and secured a superb third overall.
The former two time British Champ John Mitchell commented “After a number of weeks off the quad, I didn't know what speed I would have today. Fortunately, I felt comfortable and clearly all the pre season fitness training is paying off. I feel good for the first round of the British next week and look forward to seeing the new British Championship race bike that team manager Martin Fletcher and the rest of the ATV World crew have developed. I hear it’s pretty quick!”
It was another excellent day for team ATV World Yamaha. Thanks to the race organisers and all involved in putting together a superb round. All three ATV World Yamaha riders now travel to West Devon MCC Mildenhall, Suffolk for the first round of the ACU British MMX Quad Motocross Championship 2009 on April 5th. Hope to see you there!
